The Nikon HB-74 is a Bayonet mount lens hood designed for use with AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Lens. It helps to reduce stray light which can cause flare. Lens hoods are generally made to extend and shade the end of the lens in order to block stray light from entering the lens. To match the angle of view of the lens it was made for, a specific lens hood is created. Additionally, the front element of the lens is protected from unintentional impacts because the end of the lens is extended when the hood is in use.
